Last February I made a Wedding Album for Ian's cousin - and it's just occured to me that I never got round to sharing it with you all!

So, here it is .... better later than never, as they say!

Pictures are a bit blue - I really do need to get the hang of the White Balance lol.

Doodles Unleashed Week One

So, as we move into week two of the Doodles Unleashed workshop at Strathmore Artists Studio I've finally got around to having a play with the week one technique. Not entirely sure this genre is for me, but I did have fun.

The page is going into my Scrapbook*Life*Journal as a reminder of my One Little Word for 2012.

I'd love to know what you think - honest views welcome as I'm not sure if this is an artform I want to continue working on or not ... to me it looks like something my kids would paint.

Ten on the Tenth - January

So, it's the 10th of January ALREADY! How did that happen???

Reading through other blogs I came across posts about Ten on the Tenth - something I think Shimelle started. What a great idea! So, my 10 for January is a list of tools I'd like to own by the end of 2012:-

1) Sizzix Big Shot Pro Machine - I just love the idea of being able to die cut up to 12x12!

2) We R Memory Keepers Sew Ribbon Sets - what a great way to add ribbon borders to projects!

3) We R Memory Keepers Lucky 8 Punches to add a bit of pizazz to my layouts

4) We R Memory Keepers Corner Chompers - I'm sure there was only one last time I looked!

5) We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile III - Main Squeeze - I love corners and tabs.

6) We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile II - Big Bite I use my Crop-A-Dile to set all my eyelets, but it would be great to be able to get into the centre of a 12x12 layout.

7) The Imaginisce I-Rock - I find adhesive gems slide out of place on cards so it would be great to fix them on more permanently.

8) Completing my Promarker collection - there are still a fair few colours to get and I LOVE THEM!

9) Ultra-Fine Nibs for each of my Promarkers to make them even more versatile

10) MDF Stands for my Promarkers - these on Ebay look fab!

There are lots of other tools I'd like ... but 10 will do for a start!

Another Early Birthday Present

I've been such a lucky girl this year for early birthday presents - only problem is I don't think there is anyone left to give me a present on my actual birthday lol.

This birthday pressie was from Ian - and I got it on New Year's Eve! Stephanie Ackerman over at Homegrown Hospitality is running a year long class called Scrapbook*Life*Journal (details are towards the end of the post) - so far there are over 200 of us all over the globe taking part and having a ball. Registration has been extended through to the 31st January, so there is still time for you to join us (I know some of my readers are already taking part!)

Each month has a different theme throughout the year - January is Being Honest With Yourself - and includes a monthly doodle page to colour and embelish, journalling prompts, calendar page, verses, techniques and loads more.

Below are some of my January pages - I'm having SO much fun on this class and using up long hoarded stash in the process (much to Ian's delight!). I'm also spending time on ME - although this month is hard as it's all about being HONEST. You'll see from my Honesty page why that is hard for me!

the photo a day project has fallen apart! Well, actually that happened on the forth, but hey!

So, it looks like POTD is going to be Project Life .... photos of the important things, everyday things, and even the mundane .... just not every day. I'll still end up with a great record of 2012, and it will give me a chance to add more photos of the important things, rather than just trying to pick out one.

On a more positive note, Scrapbook Life 2012 is still on a roll. I've not got anything ready to post yet, but I have been playing with my doodles, prompts and calendar pages, and am going to Staples after work to get a binder, pockets and a few other bits. Then I'm going to spend some time over the weekend playing with papers and getting the binder filled. Piccies will follow next week ;-)

But most importantly, I'm enjoying doing the creative bits I have managed to do .... and even getting out of my box a bit!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge - January 2012

Reading through my blogs recently, I came across a post mentioning the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog (sorry, I can't remember who's blog I read about it on, but if you've blogged about it recently - THANK YOU!!).

On the 5th of each month, the team challenge you to take inspiration for specific kits from one of the many suppliers out there, and compile your own kit made up from stash you already have. Well, anyone who knows me will know I have TONS of stash from when I owned Craft Magic UK - and now I think I've finally found a way to use some of it up!

Throughout the month, the team will also be challenging us to actually USE the stuff in our kits - shock, horror!! You mean I can't just sit and stroke it all???

Wow - what a day!

I think the weather will be featuring in pretty much everyone's posts today. The weathermen certainly got today right.

At least the school run wasn't too bad, and today's pupil cancelled so I didn't have to try and fight my way through the Dartford Tunnel (which was down to one tunnel as the bridge was closed due to the high winds and so the other tunnel was coming southbound).

This was the view from my front door later in the morning - WOW! We've not had puddles like that for ages, but it didn't slow the cars down! I'm SO pleased I wasn't walking down the road.

A couple of hours later ..... brilliant sunshine! You can always rely on the british weather to keep you on your toes lol.

I'm now sitting down catching up on Eastenders with a box of tissues at the ready - funny how you can get so attached to a soap character.

Just watched this video on Tim's blog for his Idea-ology Storage Systems ... I SOOOOO need these! (ok, need may be a bit strong, but aren't they gorgeous!)

I'm now wondering if it would be possible to customise my silver storage box the boys bought me for Christmas - it's one of those mechanic-type boxes with ridged metal sides, but it might work .......

And so begins a new year .... welcome to 2012!

Today is the start of another chapter in my life - a new year, new projects, new hopes, new plans, new .... who know's what?

My first photo of 2012 is a little bit of a cheat - I wasn't actually IN London .... the photo was taken of the TV screen, but it's still my photo lol. One down, 365 to go!

I had a great night last night, spending time with Mum & Dad, Ian and the boys - and of course, Parker who tried to get his nose into everything .... including Mum's Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Vol-au-vent! Good food, a cocktail or five & Trivial Persuit on the Wii all led up to the 'bongs' of Big Ben and fireworks.

Today has been quite subdued (and it's not just the after effects of the cocktails!) ... everywhere is closed, the weather has been pants and Ian's hand stopped us doing much in the way of decorating or gardening. So, a quiet day of colouring and watching TV - you can't beat a bit of 'Carry On Camping' followed by 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' for New Years Day entertainment.

All I need now is to round off the day with a nice bubbly bath!

One Little Word 2012

So, I've been thinking about Ali Edward's 'One Little Word' so decided to check back through the archives to see what my word was for 2011 - only to find I didn't have one! The last (and first) word I set was for 2010 and was ORGANISE

Once again, I've been toying with a few words .... Peace, Calm, Live, Family ... or maybe even DECIDE!

Earlier this month I had a bit of a health scare - I found a lump in one of my 'girls' so dutifully went along to the Drs to get it checked out. After a course of antibiotics, it was still there so I went back, and was referred to the Breast Cancer Clinic at the hospital. After an agonising 10 days waiting for the appointment, I finally had a mamogram which THANKFULLY came back as normal. Speaking to the consultant, it turns out I have naturally lumpy boobies, which are just fat lumps. Oh the relief!

It may sound strange, but I really feel I've been given a second chance with my life, and have decided it's about time I LIVE my life rather than just EXIST in it.

So ..... my One Little Word for 2012 really needs to be LIVE!

Now I just need to decide whether to sign up for Ali's One Little Word class at BPS ;-)

I've Discovered Picnik

A couple of weeks ago I downloaded Picasa 3 to my netbook, so I could try and organise my ever growing collection of photographs. As I only have PSE on disc, and no disc drive on the netbook, I've not been able to install that yet, so thought I'd give the Picasa editing feature a go. But, I couldn't find any way to layer photos.

I found an article by Shimelle (via the Blogging For Scrappers class I took in 2009) about various online editing suites, and one of those was Picnik. So I decided, as that was linked to Picasa, to give it a try - paid for the premium membership for a year, and had a play with the photo overlays for Project 365.

I'm quite pleased with what I produced (ok, so it's not that difficult really, but when you're as technically challenged as I am, it can take a bit of playing to master) - I just need to find a way to separate the date stamps as all the numbers for the relevant month are on one sheet. But as it's now 1.20am, I may leave that till the morning!

Christmas Eve!

Well, Christmas Eve didn't go quite to plan!

Being a Saturday, Ian was supposed to be at home so I'd planned a family day:-

1) Make a Gingerbread House with the boys
2) Watch a Christmas Movie or two
3) Walk in the park for some great photo opportunities
4) Family dinner round the table
5) Midnight Carol Service at church

It all started going wrong when Ian announced a few days before that he would have to go into work during the morning - not a happy bunny, but he couldn't leave one guy on his own to take in all the deliveries for the hotel. There go numbers 2 & 3.

The decorating had not gone as well as we'd hoped, so the dining room table is still in the garage - there goes number 4.

It got to around 3pm and I was getting .... shall we say a little impatient as Ian was still not home. So, I gave him a ring at work .... thankfully, there was no answer so at least he was on his way. So, I try the mobile, and after only a couple of rings he answers. The conversation went something like this:-

Me: Hiya, just wondering where you are?
Ian: In Crayford.
Me: Great - you won't be long so we'll wait to decorate the gingerbread house. Have you stopped for anything, or just to answer the phone?
Ian: Well, you could say I've stopped, yes.
Me: {{pause}} Oookkk - what does that mean?
Ian: I've come off the bike!
Me: What do you mean, you've come off the bike? Are you ok?
Ian: Sort of - I'll be home in a few minutes.

As you can imagine, as soon as the bike pulled onto the drive I had the door open to see if he was OK. The look on his face as he got off the bike said it all - Ian doesn't really do 'hurt' but you could see the pain in his eyes.

So, after a quick phone call to Dad, the boys were whisked away and we were in the car on the way to A&E.

What happened??? He was driving up the hill behind a Fiesta van, about 1/2 mile from home when the car in front of said van decided to brake suddenly and turn right without warning. Said van slams on his brakes and Ian, thinking to himself 'that van's getting a bit close' brakes as well. The front wheel locks up, slides out and Ian is heading for the floor - at this point he decides that the best thing would be for him to GET OFF the bike, which he does and the bike slides on it's side for another 4 or 5 feet into the back of the van. THANKFULLY nothing was behind him, otherwise it could have been a lot worse!

The guy in the car has now disappeared round the back of the shops, never to be seen again! The guy in the van gets out, helps Ian pick up the bike (which being the good biker that he is, Ian has already crawled up the road to turn off the engine), and then looks at Ian as if he has lost his marbles while he calmly answers the phone to me and tells me that he's come off the bike lol. After deciding between them that it's not worth involving insurance companies, Ian then proceeded to ride the bike (albeit with a broken headlamp which surprisingly still worked - well, it is an ex-Police BMW) home.

The upshot of our 2 hour visit to A&E was that he has chipped a bone by the knuckle of his left pinkie, for which he has to wear strapping until he sees the Orthopods at the fracture clinic on the 4th Jan, has grazed his left knee, bruised his shoulder where it hit the floor ... and then the nurse added to his pain by sticking a flipping great tetanus injection into his left butt cheek! But he was an absolute trooper and didn't cry once lol.

So .... after all that excitement we were both knackered, and there go numbers 1 & 5!

But on a more serious note, I'm just thankful that he was being watched over, and that he made it home safely .... albeit a little battered and bruised!

JYC - Traditions

Last year I started a new tradition. It all began with a new, black Christmas Tree - and of course with a new tree HAS to come new decorations.

I decided to go for a red and gold theme, although a bit of green and white also crept in. And the tradition?? Well, I bought a few REALLY nice, special decorations ... and I plan to add to them each year, building up our own family collection.

This year's decorations comprise of three lovely little snow globes - one for James, one for Joe and one for a Special Mum & Dad; a red "faberge" type egg which opens up so you can put a little gift inside (I'm ever hopeful lol); and a large, red message for Santa (about me, of course!).

Next step - to start an album recording our decorations along with their memories - eventually, the boys will be taking some of them with them as they fly the nest and start their own Christmas traditions.

JYC Day 18 - Santa Train

I can't believe I actually managed to keep my Pre-Christmas Surprise under wraps right up until we pulled into the carpark at the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway!

It was an early start - we left at 8am ..... ON A SUNDAY!!! No snow, sadly, but we did have a lot of frost to remove from the car before we could set off.

But as the sun started coming up, the sky turned a beautiful pink .....

The boys didn't even guess when they found out we were going with the Hawkins and the Kings - I was sure one of the kids would have mentioned it over the past couple of weeks.

We arrived at Hythe station just in time to catch The Santa Train - it was a bit drafty, but great fun .... all the way to Dungeness.

Just as we arrived, another train pulled in on the track beside us ... HERE COMES SANTA!

After a brief trip round the railway museum, it was our turn to go and see the big man - through the grotto ....

and into Santa's workshop. James told Santa he wanted a Skateboard for Christmas, and Joe a Nintendo PS3D, pressies, then photoshoot time - even Mummy got in on this one ;-)

Then it was off to the cafe for refreshments - a food goody bag for the kids, and sausage rolls, mince pies and mulled wine for the adults ... YUMM!

After a little bit of soapy snow (Joe learnt the hard way that you can't catch artificial snowflakes on your tongue as they taste gross!), it was back on the train, waves to Santa and back to Hythe.

Creative Color Challenge 2012

A very eventful day!

It's beginning to feel more like Christmas in the Maynard house. This morning was Church Parade at the Christingle Service - this isn't held at our church so it was a little different ... a mix of the modern worship I now love, and the traditional service I grew up with. It seems that the church have been working their way through the nativity story during advent, and today was the arrival of the Shepherds and Angels. Lots of the children had dressed up for the occasion, and all came to the front of the church during the story - very interactive, with those of us left in the pews adding the sound effects for the 'wild and stormy night', the Angel's singing, and the lamb baa-ing lol. Once the Christingles had been passed around and lit, the lights were dimmed as we sang the Christingle Song - can't remember the words as I was seriously distracted by the wonderous looks on Toby and Ross' faces as they held their candles!

When Ian got home, we put up the Christmas Tree - the living room is still a tip, but the boys couldn't wait any longer. I started a new tradition in our family last year - one which Mum has been doing for a few years, and that's adding a few new decorations to the tree each year. This year's additions included a little snow globe each - one saying 'Merry Christmas Joseph', one 'Merry Christmas James' and one saying 'Special Mum & Dad'. I also bought one for Freya for her First Christmas.

So, another crafty project needs to be started ... an album of photos of our growing decoration collection!

Speaking of crafty projects, it looks like my JYC2011 album entries will be on an 'as-and-when' basis, as daily entries are not flowing - lots going on at the moment which is not crimbo related which is taking my focus elsewhere. But I'm sure it will make just as fabulous a memory!

JYC Day 7 - Making Her List, Checking It Twice!

So much to do, so little time!

This year I wanted Christmas to be organised and stress-free - ha ha ha! I'm now convinced that those two words don't exist in my world! I still have SO much left to do, so maybe a To Do List is in order:-

1. Finish making Christmas Cards and get them in the post

2. Finish buying pressies

3. Buy wrapping supplies and start wrapping pressies already bought

4. Clear living room so we can get the tree up

5. Presents and cards for teachers

6. Visit the Christmas Tree Festival at Christ Church

7. Photograph the local lights

8. Food shopping for New Year's Eve

9. Clean kitchen ready for Christmas cooking

10. Make Gingerbread House with the boys

11. ENJOY CHRISTMAS!

JYC Day 4 - Christmas Shopping

I don't know why, but I can never feel festive doing the Christmas Shopping. Maybe it's because we schlap around the same shopping centres and into the same shops which we go into all year round. Yes, they make great efforts with decorations and such, but it just doesn't feel special for me.

Next year, I plan to book a Christmas Shopping Weekend to one of the Christmas Markets in Europe. They look so amazing and festive with all those stalls displaying their wares - I look at the photos and can almost smell and taste the gorgeous, edible goodies ... wonder if they are taking bookings for next year yet?

Journal Your Christmas 2011

Hmmm - so far, not so good :-( JYC2011 started over at Shimelle's website on 1st December ..... it's now the 9th and I've only just completed the first page. I know that this project is designed to have no pressure, but I'd like to at least get my thoughts down on paper, even if the pages aren't actually crafted. So, I intend to spend today catching up on the prompts, and adding my thoughts on here. So, prepare to be bombarded with blog entries ;-)

Attitude of Gratitude

Well, September came and went .... I started my Learn Something New Every Day album, completed the first 7 days and that was it :-(

I'm a little disappointed with myself, but I guess life just gets in the way sometimes. So, I'm a little wary about starting another longterm project ..... but I'm going to give it a go anyway!

So, I'll be joining in with Attitude of Gratitude 2011 over at PrecociousPaper. I'm planning to tie it in with a bit of bible study as well, so November should be a truly uplifting and thought-provoking month.

Topic of the Month

I thought I'd add a little structure to my blogging ... and crafting. So, as of September I'm going to choose a topic each month to scrap, use for my cards, photograph etc.

So, my topic for September is .......... New Beginnings.

I'm thinking new school year for the boys, scrapping the photos I took for the beginning of my new career in March, birth photos of our gorgeous Niece Freya. Wonder what else will spring to mind during September??

Michelle Perkett Studios - Vintage Creations Challenge

I love the vintage look - and now that I've managed to get to grips with it, I love stepper cards lol. I'm not the most patient of people, so tended to rush the measuring and cutting ..... big mistake! But this time, I took my time with it, measured, cut and scored acurately and guess what .... it worked lol.

I decided to mount the image in the centre step rather than the back one, as I wanted it to be more visible ... I think it works.

Sketch N Stash Challenge 68

Well, I think I'm on a role with the old mojo - so I'm making the most of it!

Today I've finished my entry for the Sketch N Stash Challenge 68 - I adore this sketch, and can see me using it often. If you want to play along too, you have until Sunday 28th August to get your entry in - there's a £10 voucher to Bunny Zoes Crafts up for grabs.

Anyway - onto my entry. One of the rules for Sketch N Stash is that you have to use something new or something neglected from your stash - being greedy, I used both!

The something neglected is the patterned paper. It's from a huge pad I had, but I've lost the cover so can't tell you what it is lol. I've not used it in ages, so decided to start using it up. The new stash is the ribbon, which comes from my Cardmaker's Kit from Duck Pond Crafts; the mint green pearls from Hobbycraft; and the digi-stamp, which is a freebie from Sassy Cheryl (you can find her group at Paper Craft Planet. The card is Bazill and Anita's Silver Miriboard.

Off now to do some more colouring - I SOOOO love my Promarkers!

Doodling - a new found media!

OK - so I'm probably light years behind everyone else, but I though I'd give Doodling a go as a new addition to my crafty armoury!

I found a great blog called Homegrown Hospitality by Stephanie Ackerman, and decided to sign up for her Doodle 101 workshop. Below is my first proper Doodled page - the front page for my journal. I want to try and make at least one page each week in this journal, and will be featuring doodles in there a fair bit. It's so relaxing and theraputic, although I may need to buy some other pens as the Promarkers bled though to the back .... and the next page - ooops!

I'm seriously thinking about now joining the Doodle, Too class!

Christmas Is Coming ........ ARRRGH!!!

I can't believe I just typed that - I've not even had my summer holiday yet!!

Having Google Reader as my homepage is really helping to get me craftily inspired - there are so many great crafting blogs out there! So, last night I piled my stash around me, including my new Blooms Kit from Duck Pond Crafts and made three more Chrismas Cards. The photos aren't great (sorry) - I really must find my PSE disc so I can load it on the Netbook (just can't get to grips with the freebie photo editing software I downloaded). Recently, my laptop became sick ;-( She's still sick, but I went out and bought myself a Netbook so I could a) get back to work and b) get back to my social life (Facebook, Paper Craft Planet etc lol). And of course, back to my crafting.

First thing I did (after installing a good anti-virus programme so my Netbook doesn't join the laptop in the hospital), was to set up Google Reader as my homepage - and boy has there been some inspiration out there recently! There have been a few Blog Hops taking place, so I've added lots of new blogs to my list - and found lots of new/old technique tutorials to have a play with.

Well, there's nothing like a short deadline to get the creative juices flowing!

I've managed three Christmas Cards - I like to keep my holiday cards quite simple, as I have a lot to make and need them to be fairly quick. I also try not to make them too bulky so as to keep the postage down. (I'm
sorry the photos aren't great, but my PSE programme is on the very sick laptop)

My cards feature Poinsettia Fairy and Tia the Holiday Fairy by Michelle Perkett. These are lovely digi stamps to colour - I've used ProMarkers to colour mine, with some HobbyCraft Glitter Glue and Strawberry Ultra Fine Flower Soft to add some sparkle and texture.

I know, I know ..... it's been a while since I posted! Life has been incredibly hectic this year, as I've been training to be a Driving Instructor, and setting up my business. But, now things are calming down a bit, I've been drawn back to crafting - yes, we all know how addictive this hobby is lol.

What am I so excited about, you may be wondering? Well, I've been given a Guest Designer Spot for Michelle Perkett Studio over at PaperCraftPlanet! I can't tell you too much, except that I will be using one of Michelle's GORGEOUS digi-stamps in my creation for a new baby. Day 11 - On Reflection

Todays assigment was to photograph a reflected image. So, out came my trusty PartyLite Mirror and I whipped some decorations off the tree.

I'm really pleased with this one - might have to find some nice shiny wrapping paper for the pressies this year :)

Day 8 - Camera Artistry

Day 8 was Camera Artistry - the assignment .... to produce a Seasonal Macro Triptych - photographing one subject in three macro abstract 'sections'.

I love triptych pictures - we've all seen them for sale as canvas prints in the shops. You know, the ones with three canvases that make up the one picture.

Here's my attempt. Unfortunatley PSE is on the other computer, so they are individual photos at the moment, but I will put them together as one later and re-post them.

Day 10 - Clear Visual Definition

Caught up on another couple of assigments this morning, and managed to get todays done.

Day 8 was Clear Visual Definition which focused on ..... differential focusing. We had to produce 2 shots using single point focusing and a shallow depth of field. The first shot was focused on the background subject, and the second on the foreground subject.

I had a lot of fun playing with this one, with different subjects, but it was the Santa ones which I really liked. The lighting isn't fantastic, but at least I got the technique! I can see my Christmas photos being SOOO much more artistic this year!

Day 9 - Blinded By The Light

Christmas would not be complete without candles! And today's challenge was to photograph some .... EASY you say???? NOT!

It's really difficult to get the focusing right, and not lose the flame in the flicker. I also found the lighting levels a bit difficult to come to terms with, but I'm fairly pleased with what I've got so far. I've left everything set up so I can have another play tonight when it's dark (and Ian's retrieved the tripod from the loft lol).

I think the first one is my favourite. All PartyLite products, of course ;-)

Day 6 - Custom and Practice

Day 6 was to get some practice in ready for those all important 'traditional' shots like unwrapping the pressies ...... but taking a different slant on things with composition.

James had ANOTHER day off school because the water pipes had burst, so he became my test subject ... and very well he did too.

Due to the snow and school closures, I didn't get around to doing days 2 and 3 yet, but here is today's assignment.

We were challenged to take a festive walk and take photographs while we were out. I went into the garden to take mine, and I'm so glad I did otherwise I would have missed the gorgeous icicles outside our bathroom window!

12 Days of Christmas - Day 1

Today we were playing with our White Balance! Now lift your mind up a few feet out of the gutter - it's a setting on the camera which changes the way the camera sees light.

It's amazing the difference the right settings make - the following pictures are the same, just with different WB settings.

In order of appearence:- Auto White Balance (AWB); Cloudy; Daylight; Daylight Colours - Florescent; Daylight White - Florescent; Flash; Shade; Tungsten; White Light - Florescent.

I've taken another set of photos with my bear sitting on the dining room table, so I can see the difference between natural lighting and tungsten lighting (I'll post those later).

Well, it's started :) Cheryl Johnson is running a 12 day workshop called The 12 Days Of Christmas ...... and I got a place!

Had a small hic-up before I even started :( Ian took my camera to work with him a couple of weeks ago ..... and forgot to bring home the download cable! So, I've got to wait until tonight before I can get any of my photos off the camera. But, it'll give me a bit longer to play around with the first topic - White Balance :) It's about time I learnt how to use my camera properly :D

I've Been Playing With PSE!

I've used Photoshop Elements forever (or so it seems) as my photo editing programme, but only ever really used it to crop photos. So I thought it was about time to learn how to use the other tools properly.

Step 1 - went out and bought a copy of Digital Photo Magazine with a DVD of PSE Tutorials (actually, it was the 40 border templates that caught my eye)

Step 2 - had a play with some of the tutorials on the free DVD following the instructions in the magazine.

Had great fun - not sure I totally understand why/how it worked, but as long as I can achieve the effects I guess that's the important part.

Been playing around tonight, and learnt something new ...... extraction!

No, nothing to do with teeth - it's removing the background from a picture so you can superimpose the image onto another background ..... you know, like putting your head on a supermodel's body (that's my next project LOL).

I'm quite pleased with this layout - pretty simple (I'm still learning and loving every minute!).

Tigers Two!

Well, the school holidays have been a bit mixed so far.

Had a great day on Monday at Paradise Wildlife Park - first layout below :)

Then spent Wednesday evening at A&E with James :( - he had a bite on his neck, which turned into Impetigo. So, I'm now pouring antibiotics down his throat 4 times a day (he's being really good though).

We've also got a houseguest for the weekend - he's about 8" long and squeeks a lot :) He's joined us because he had a bit of a scuffle with his flatmate and came off worse! Got a lovely lump of skin taken out of his back ..... and I have the pleasure of putting his cream on twice a day. Be fine ... so long a I don't get him and James mixed up LOL.

Can you guess what it is yet???? LOL

Started my Paris Album!

We had a fantastic time last weekend on our trip to Paris, despite arriving 3 hours late because of an alarm in the tunnel :( Still, we had plenty of time to sightsee before heading out for an EIGHT course dinner at Helene D'Arroze Restaurant, and then a leisurely stroll round the Jardin de Tuileries and along the Seine on Sunday morning. All that food, and I STILL managed to lose 2 1/2 lb!

I've made a start on the album .... here are the first few pages - I'd love to know what you think :D

Altered Buildings & Blog Hops

I have had SOOO much fun this evening with the Altered Artspirations Challenge over at Scrapbookgraphics - the challenge was to alter a building, monument or landmark.

I watched the Dome being built, as the Dockland Scout Project base is directly opposite - in fact, this picture was taken from the Blue Bridge at the entrance to the dock.

It took FOREVER to 'colour' in the roof, as I've lost the pen to my graphics tablet so had to use the mouse (which is why it looks a bit raggedy). But I'm really pleased with the finished results.

Weekly Verb Album - Weeks 12 and 13

OK - so they are now a bit out of order as I still need to get the parcels for weeks 7-11, but here are weeks 12 (Learn) and 13 (Comfort).

I did consider using FOOD as the subject of my comfort page, but as I'm trying to lose weight and NOT use food for comfort, I decided to go with HOME instead.

I printed out the front cover today onto white Bazzill Cardstock, and the texture on the card gave the page a totally different look which I loved - so I've decided to print the whole album on white Bazzill (note to self - buy more cardstock LOL).

Altered Artspirations #52 - Altered Woman

Had a look round the Scrapbookgraphics Forum tonight, and spotted the Altered Artspirations Challenge - ALTERED WOMAN. The ephemera picture is GORGEOUS, and eventhough I'm too late to enter mine into the challenge (it finished on the 12th), I still had a go.

The challenge was to use the "Mysterious Woman" ephemera on a piece of altered art. I loved the mysterious element, so played on that.

All the other elements come from the Altered Journal Caravan Provisions Parcels 13 and 15 by Tangie Baxter and Amanda Sexton.

Art Journal Caravan Update

Hmmmm - I'm SOOOO far behind with this :( But I did manage to transfer all my digi kits from the laptop to the EHD last night, and rewarded myself with a bit of digi-scrapping time. I also treated myself to a couple of new downloads - the Basic Grey Templates (1) from Wendyzine Scraps being one of them, which I'm using to put together an AJC Mini Album. I decided to use all three styles, alternating them to make the book more eclectic - a bit like me :)

I did a few pages tonight, and hope to catch up with the rest over the next few days.

All the papers and elements were taken from the Studio Tangie AJC Provisions Kits.

Not sure yet whether to just print them off onto cardstock and use that as the pages, or whether to buy the chipboard albums and stick the pages to that. Not sure if it would make it too thick though, as it would be 52 pages plus covers :O

I've been having a play with my new PSE8 (yep ... another night when I can't sleep, although this time it's through PAIN! My whole body aches after only 3 evenings as dresser for the Gang Show, and there's still 3 performances to go!).

Bearing in mind that I've jumped from version 2 straight up to 8 (note to self - don't leave it so long to upgrade next time LOL), I managed to work most things out. However, I'm buggered if I can find my Magic Eraser tool! Think I'll hunt for that one when I'm a bit more awake :)

Where did the time go??? Still, I'm back - and DH has been up to his wonderfulness again and bought me a 1TB External Hard Drive to store all my photos, digi-kits and digi-layouts on. I transferred what I had on my C-drive last night, and have used up a miniscule amount of space on the EHD! I'M IN HEAVEN ..... looks like I'll have to buy some more digi-kits LOL.

Got a busy week this week, as the boys are in the local Scout Gang Show and muggins here volunteered to help as a dresser :) and yes .... I'm having SOOOO much fun, although it is really tiring having to pick clothes up off the floor for a bunch of pre-teen girls LOL. I WILL get them hanging stuff up by the end of the week :) So glad I've got boys LOL.

Yes, my faithful old PC died last week :( She's been a loyal and faithful friend for 7 years, but this time, she'd had enough!

So - I'm sitting here blogging on my new (well, new to me) PC with a NINETEEN inch screen!!! I feel like I'm at the control panel for NASA LOL.

And it's arrived just in the nick of time, as we're running a Cyber Crop over at FaithScrappers UK this weekend. It starts a 7pm on Friday, with classes and challenges being posted all through Friday evening and Saturday. Sunday will be class-less, but we will have a Bible Study during the day.

Our CCs are pretty relaxed - there's no pressure to join in with the classes or challenges, you just pick the ones you fancy having a go at. And if you want to do them all ...... FAB! It's a chance to learn some new techniques, create some meaningful projects, chat with other crafters and have fun. The theme for this Cyber Crop is The Power Of Prayer!

Here's another one I worked on in the wee hours - the parcels of supplies for the AJC are just SOOOO scrummy, I can't wait to play with them. Really should start downloading them during the day instead of the evening though, then maybe I'll get to bed before 2am LOL.

When I saw that the Verb of the Week was SEEK, this verse from scripture sprang instantly to mind. It's one of my favourites, and has a special place in my heart.

I've got a bit behind with everything, as I've not been well for the past week or so, and so it's been really painful to sit (and stand, lie down, walk ..... doesn't leave much does it LOL). Thankfully, things are easing, and I've been able to sit tonight and do my Week 5 page for the Art Journal Caravan at Scrapbook Graphics. I've also managed to put together 5 journaling blocks for a swap over on FaithScrappers UK - can't show them until the swap is completed, but I will post them when it is - promise!

Got a busy week this week, but will try and do some more scrapping when I can .... it's so nice to spend some time just chilling with my laptop, some digi elements and my mojo!

Yummy Mummy Week for CLIC Sargent

I'm so excited - I've just signed up to hold a PartyLite Show and Coffee Morning as part of the CLIC Sargent Yummy Mummy Week in March.

They are aiming to raise £300,000 at events during the week of 6th-14th March to support children with cancer.

This is SUCH a worthwhile charity, and I've always been a sucker for kids charities. It's also the chosen charity of PartyLite UK - so what better way for me to raise money for them!

I'll be holding the show on Monday 8th March - more details to follow, and I'll be donating the Hostess Commission (that's a minimum of 10% of sales made at the event) to CLIC Sargent, plus the proceeds of the raffle with a VERY special prize for the lucky winner (I may even throw in an extra couple of prizes).

I've learnt something new today!

It's been a bit of a morning of discoveries. I was doing my morning blog roundup, when I came across a challenge on The DigiChick Blog using a PSD Template. Well, never having used templates before, I was a bit wary about doing this challenge. So, after resorting to the good-old Google, I found a really easy tutorial on using layered templates at Misty Cato Designs. It was really easy to follow, in plain simple steps which is ideal for me, as I do tend to be a bit technically challenged! After playing around for a while until it finally clicked, I came up with this:-

The glitter on the butterflies came from a freebie at Scrapbook Design Down Under, and the supplies for the rest of the layout came from Jen Martakis' February Kit which I absolutely LOVE.

This weekend I'm going to make a start on my Junque Journal a-la Tangie Baxter. There is a fab tutorial on her YouTube Channel for making these journals, and I think it will be really theraputic to sit down in the evenings this weekend scrunching and inking pages.

Art Journal Caravan - Itinerary #2

I had a spare half hour while I drank my coffee (actually, I could have unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, but what the hey!!!), so I thought I'd have a play with Parcel #2 from the Art Journal Caravan over at scrapbookgraphics.com! I LOVE this one - the colours are gorgeous, and I just fell head over heals for the bird.

So, I've had a play with ACCEPT - something I do struggle with. Thanks for the inspiration, Tangie - I'm going to print this one out and stick it to my wall as a permanent reminder that I don't have to be perfect ... I just have to accept it and get on with life!

I've always been fascinated by Art Journals I've seen online, but never really had the time to make one. When I found this year long course, I couldn't wait to sign up - I just had to work on DH :) He caved in ..... and I signed up yesterday.

Prompt 3 in ScrapDolly's 52in10 Challenge has brought mixed feelings. The first part of the challenge was to go back in time and give some advice to a younger you. Well, I went back 15 years to a day which in hindsight was filled with mixed emotions, when my life could have turned out so differently.

It's been good to actually put my thoughts down on paper, even if they are hidden ... they are far too personal to blog. Although I've done this layout digi, it will actually be printed as two parts. Underneath the photo on the main page is a journalling block containing a letter I've written to myself - I doubt I would have listened even to me .... I didn't listen to anyone else LOL. The photo is of a beautiful sunset I took last year, as I didn't want the subject of my letter to be obvious. When it's printed, the photo and hinges will be stuck over the journalling to form a flap (hope that makes sense).

The second part of the challenge was to use a quote ..... thanks ScrapDolly - I've been waiting to use that one for AGES!!

My Lifetime Story 2010

I've just finished my Title Page for Week 1's "My Lifetime Story" Faithbooking Challenge over at FaithSisters.com

The elements came from Susan Godfrey's "Jan Marie" Kit, and the tag template was from Audra's Freebie Tag Sampler. I'm learning so much about PSE (I've only had it about 8 years LOL). I've avoided digi-scrapping, thinking that it wouldn't be as much fun as paper scrapping ..... boy was I wrong. I still love to get the paper and glue out, and get messy, but we are trying to get the house straight so getting my stash out is not really an option at the moment.

52in10 Page 2 - Goals 2010

I've managed to get my second page done tonight, less than 24 hours since the prompt was posted LOL. I get the feeling I'm being lulled into a false sense of security ..... they can't all be this easy but I bet they will all be this much fun.

2010 has started fairly well - we now have a proper floor in our kitchen! Just the skirting boards and painting to do and that will finally be finished after 5 years :)

I can also see my living room floor - well, half of it anyway. I'm slowly getting my life organised, but the biggest achievement is that I've finally accepted that it's not something that is going to happen overnight. I need to take baby steps - it didn't get messy overnight, so it's not going to get tidy overnight!

My weight has always been a battle, but I really do think I'm in a place now where I CAN and WILL win that battle. Again, it's baby steps, and I'm so pleased to have lost my first stone. I've kinda set my goal weight, although it's in liquid cement rather than stone - if I get to a weight where I'm happy, and it's not my goal, I know I can move that goal. I want to look good and be healthy - not a stick insect :D

Well, enough waffle from me for tonight - here's the layout!

Well, what a surprise ..... it's snowing again! Still, it's giving me lots of time to work on the facelift for the FaithScrappers UK Website.

FSUK is an online community for Christian Crafters in the UK and beyond, and is THE place to be for fun, fellowship and crafting! We've got LOADS of new features coming over the next few weeks - starting with our Member Get Member Month.

OK, I said yesterday that there'd be some announcements coming about FaithScrappers UK - well here's the first.

I'm in the middle of updating the website and forum - well, actually it's more of a complete makeover! So, we are looking to expand our Design Team.

That's where you come in! We are looking for three new members - details below. This call is open to everyone - you don't have to live in the UK, but do bear in mind that the forum does focus on the UK when it comes to retreats, sponsors (when I get some) etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of gorgeous projects :)

52 in 10 - Prompt 1

The boys went back to school today, so I've spent the morning working on my first layout for my 52 in 10 Album. I tried to keep the page fairly simply, as there was a LOT of journalling. I didn't realise that so much had happened in ten years - and these are just the highlights! It was good spending some time looking back over the past decade and seeing how it has shaped my life.

I'm now looking forward to the next prompt arriving on Sunday!

Now I've had my bit of fun for the day, I guess I'd better get back to reality ..... and the washing machine!

52 in 10

I've decided it's about time I did some scrapping about ME - and what better way than by joining ScrapDolly in her "52 in 10" Project.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm letting myself in for - I get the feeling there may be some deep soul-searching at times, but maybe that's what I need to build my confidence and "organise" my soul! Hmmm - now where have I heard that word before LOL.

First decision ...... format. Hmmmmm - size is not a problem! That'll be 8x8" so that I can print out any layouts which I do digi, which as I seem to be well and truly bitten by the digi-bug, is looking likely to be most of the album LOL. I've made my front and back covers, which I've put side-by-side for this piccie to make it easier. I'll see how things go but I'm hoping I'll be able to put all the layouts into one album and bind it with my BIA, but it will depend how thick it gets. Might add in a few embellishments as I go, so in reality it's likely to be a hybrid album.

I'm quite excited about this .... first prompt will be arriving later today, and then every Sunday throughout 2010. If you fancy joining us, pop over to Dolly's blog and check it out :)

OK - so here is my first Challenge for 2010, based on the Pencil Lines Sketch #167.

I'm still very new at digi-scrapping, but I LOVED having a go at this one. Of course, it helps to have a great photo - this one of Laura was a natural choice!

The elements for this layout all came from the Live Designs Spraground Sun Fun Collection at JessicaSprague.com (this was a freebie I downloaded last year, but I can't see it on the site anymore - sorry!)

I read EVERY Nancy Drew book I could get my hands on as a child/teen and LOVED them. This challenge really is up my alley - and I'm always up for a challenge.

I have had THE most fantastic day of the year!

OK, so it's only the 1st January but it's been a great day LOL. A long lay in ..... waking up to beautiful blue skies ..... hot bacon in freshly baked rolls for brunch ..... then the afternoon spent clearing the garden and pruning our out-of-control apple tree!

It was hard to believe that we were in the middle of winter - today has felt like a beautiful early spring day. Even the trees are starting to come out in bud. So, we wanted to make the most of the gorgeous weather. Chain Saw at the ready, Ian disappeared up the huge apple tree. A few hours later, and the whole garden looks lighter and even bigger. I took lots of piccies - just need to find the lead now to get them off the camera!

Praying now that the good weather holds for the weekend so we can get the rest of the garden cleared, and prune the second apple tree.

I'm now exhausted ..... but oh so pleased with our efforts!

Ali Edwards - One Little Word

Every year Ali Edwards challenges people to either publically or privately choose a single word which they will focus on in the coming year.

Well, I had two in mind:-

1) Well, I couldn't actually come up with ONE word for this, but it's to TAKE CARE OF MYSELF! This may sound a bit selfish, but I was diagnosed with a condition about 5 years ago for which I have to take medication - and have regular blood tests. Let's just say I'm very good at forgetting both :(

2) OK - this is the ONE WORD I came up with. ORGANISATION!!!! I'm going to focus on turning my pig-sty into a home where I can happily invite family and friends over for coffee, without needing a months advance notice LOL.

So - there you have it. I'm publically committing to get my life organised - guess that encompasses both my goals :)

Learn Something New

I've been sitting here looking through some online shops, and started thinking (yes, I know that's dangerous LOL!) I've been cardmaking since my early teens, and scrapbooking for about 7 years, and I fancy trying something different.

So, what better place to set out the new things I'd like to learn than on here! That way, I can't lose it (you'd be amazed at the number of lists I have floating round on scraps of paper!) and it will be a constant reminder - so if we get to June and I haven't done any of them, please feel free to kick me up the bum!

So, for starters:-

I'd like to learn how to use my DSLR camera properly - at the moment, pretty much everything is taken on the AUTO mode.
I'd like to learn more about Altered Art. I see lots of lovely projects on the forums, but whenever I've tried something it looks like a 5 year old has been let loose with the paper and glue!
I'd like to learn Leather Work - especially leather carving. I saw some on American Chopper the other night and it looked FANTASTIC.

I'm sure I'll be adding to the list as time goes on. I think it's about time I spent some quality time with myself :D

Something New for 2010

OK, I know it's a bit early for New Year's Resolutions, but I was reading through some of the blogs from Shimelle's Blogging for Scrapbooking class and came across Melissa's post from today about her challenge.

One of the challenges was to pick a book from a list and read it, then give a review. It gives links to various Top 100 lists, and there is one for Mystery Novels. That got me thinking.

One of my resolutions for 2010 is to have more quality ME TIME! So, I've printed off The 100 Best Mystery Novels of All Time and plan to read through them ALL! OK, I'm never going to finish that in one year, but I can give it a flippin good try ........ and what I haven't read I can do in 2011 :)

It's nearly CHRISTMAS!

Had a great day shopping with Mum yesterday - got nearly all the pressies now, and there's still 9 days to go! Unheard of for me LOL.

Tonight we've got a Christmas Party for the Jesus Kids, our church youth group for 5-7 year olds. James is SO excited, and can't wait. There'll be lots of pass the parcel, musical chairs etc, and of course - FOOD! Will also be a great photo opportunity (will have to blur the kids' faces for on here though), with the resulting layout being a perfect addition to my Faith Album.

We're also on day 15 of the Advent Swap on FaithScrappers UK - I'm so far behind with posting my goodies, so I guess now would be a good time to catch up. So, in no particular order (as I can't remember which days I opened which of my wonderful goodies!) here is the list so far:-

I love this swap, as I get to open a gorgeous little parcel of stash every day when the boys do their Advent Calenders, and the occasional choccy gift just adds to the experience :)

I've FINALLY got round to printing off my Blogging For Scrapbookers Year Of Blogging prompts - all 23 pages of them! There is a different idea for every day of the year, so with a little luck and a bit of me time, I will have no excuse not to add a post to my blog each day. I also received my annual copy of Staal News (our friends in Australia put together a newsletter to let all their family and friends know what has been happening in the Staal household), and it got me thinking. We've now got family and friends scattered all over the world, and many of them would not be interested in updates about my crafting (plus there are some bits which I wouldn't want to post for the whole world to see), so I've registered a free website to use to keep everyone up to date on the Maynard Mutterings! Looks like I'll be a VERY busy bunny in 2010 :)

Right - time to finish my Christmas Cards! I'll post a piccy of them later!

OMGosh - It's DECEMBER!!!

Where has the time gone - it's December already, and only 23 days until Christmas!

As you'll have seen, the Thanksgiving posts lasted all of 2 days LOL - and the blog hasn't been much better. Had a really bad few weeks, and didn't even want to get out of bed, let alone write my blog. But, thankfully things are improving (apart from a sore arm as the result of my flu jab this afternoon), so I'M BACK!

I'm part of the Advent Swap on FaithScrappers UK, and so far have opened to little pressies from my Secret Sister:-

On the first day of Advent my SS sent to me ...... a lovely Paper Nations Stamp and sheet of matching Peel Off Stickers.
On the second day of Advent my SS sent to me ...... a Christmas themed Embossing Stencil which will be perfect for my last minute Christmas Cards.

Thankfullness!

On Remembrance Day (11th November), a friend posted a challenge on Facebook for us to all add to our status each day, one thing for which we are thankful, and to see if we have enough things to take us to Thanksgiving (26th November).

Well, being one who can't resist a challenge, I've started posting. So far I've had:-

thankful that I have two happy, healthy children
thankful that I have a wonderful Mum, without whom I would have fallen apart years ago

Then I got to thinking - yes, I know that's dangerous, especially for me LOL. But, I realised it would be so easy to combine this challenge with my scrapbooking - so, I'm going to start a Thanksgiving Album. I know it's going to take me a lot longer than 15 days to complete, but those first 15 posts will help me to get started. My aim is to complete a layout each week, based on my 'Today I'm Thankful For' post. Who knows, I may even carry it on .........

Watch this space for the first layout which I'm planning on completing during the UKScrappers Wicked Cyber Crop this weekend. I can't wait - a whole weekend of scrapping without the boys!! Now that's heaven on earth :D

My Christmas Wish List

Every year I make a list of the crafty stuff I'd like for Christmas, so my family and friends know what will really bring a smile to my face on Christmas morning.

It doesn't always work, but it's become a tradition! This year, I thought I'd post it on my blog so it's easily accessible.

So, if anyone fancies buying me something, you'll find a list of links in the left hand column - can you just let Ian know what you've picked so he can keep a master list of what's still available.

No doubt I'll keep adding to it as new products are added!

BTW - I'm not assuming anyone will be buying me a pressie ......... but a girl's gotta have HOPE :)

Thanks to the links in Shimelles Weekend Bonus prompt, I've found a gorgeous header for my blog at Background Fairy. It was really easy to add my blog title, which I did using Adobe Photoshop Elements and then enlarged to 150% so it fitted my blog nicely.

Hope you like it - I think I may have to have a regular change to go with the seasons :)

HOW does a game become SOOOOO adictive??

I've been playing Farm Town on Facebook and think I should now be joining FarmTown-aholics! I spend FAR too much time tending to my crops, re-arranging my fields ........ and now I'm even working for other people!

I'm having so much fun - it's really relaxing to spend a bit of time to myself, growing fruit and veggies, and not getting cold and wet while doing it.

But I do wonder where it will end ??????? LOL

So, what do you think of the farm so far?

Blogging For Scrapbookers : Day 1

Yayyyyyy - I've had my first prompt :)

So, we were tasked to put down our intentions for our blogs. Well, here goes:-

blog on a regular basis - ok, this is unlikely to be daily (apart from the first 3 weeks), but I intend to at least post weekly.

take more photographs and share them via my scrapbooks and my blog

take some ME TIME at least once a week to scrap or make cards - this has been really difficult as the house is a tip, and I haven't been able to get to the table for months! Now I'm learning how to FLY (http://www.flylady.net/) and get my life organised, I'll soon be able to use the dining table for scrapping, instead of a little TV table :)

So, not bad for a first day :)

And just in case you don't believe me about the table ......

My New Blog

Well, here it is - my new blog!

I'm what could be called a 'procrastinating blogger' - I get all fired up about a new blog, post a few times, then go months without anything. Not very exciting really! But I'm hoping that's all about to change.

I've joined Shimelle's 'Blogging For Scrapbookers' Class online, and am eagerly looking forward to my first prompt to arrive in my inbox tomorrow. I'm also hoping it will give me lots to talk about and show to any followers who come across my blog.

So ......... roll on tomorrow!
